Title: Spice Kitchen Development Intern
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Start Date: May 2020
The Development Intern will support the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City’s Spice Kitchen Incubator program, a food business incubator program supporting new American and low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs. The intern will assist in planning and implementing Spice Kitchen’s 2020-2021 Development Plan, including the addition of numerous community and donor engagement events and activities, fundraisers, and logistics of launching the upcoming Café and Storefront. The IRC may maintain remote operations during this internship position.
Responsibilities:
Assist with planning, marketing, and implementation of Spice Kitchen’s Summer and Fall community engagements, such as an Open House, virtual cooking classes and demos, and Discover Food Festival.
Work with Spice Kitchen’s Community Relations Coordinator to complete and distribute 2019 Annual Report.
Collect monthly data and tracking like participant income, market opportunities, and donor engagement and gifts.
Assist Spice Kitchen’s Community Relations Coordinator to research and develop a Spice Membership Program and annual fundraising campaigns.
Develop and Implement assessments for Pre-Incubation and Incubation workshops and one-on-one meetings, measuring milestones, and tracking assessments for regular program evaluation.
Requirements
Suggested for candidates currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
An interest in the food industry, business incubation, refugee communities and Spice Kitchen Incubator is an important consideration for people interested in this position as is an understanding or willingness to learn about the issues confronting disadvantaged communities interested in entering the food industry.
Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts; adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.
An outgoing personality and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Willing to learn about cross-cultural communication and ethnic backgrounds of clients. Flexibility and a sense of humor helpful!
Experience working in self-directed, high initiative, and low supervision environments. Independent and able to take on a project assignment and ask for help when needed.
Availability to work on evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English; fluency in additional foreign language preferred.
Comfortable using virtual video chat software like Zoom and Microsoft Teams to meet with entrepreneurs.
Background check is required.
This position is at least 15-20 hours/week for at least 12 weeks, and is voluntary (unpaid).
This position reports to Jackie Rodabaugh, Community Relations Coordinator.
