We are looking for a Retail & Events Specialist to join the Spice Kitchen team.

The Spice Kitchen Retail & Events Specialist is a regular full-time position located here in Salt Lake City.

The Retail and Events Specialist will oversee Spice Kitchen Incubator’s retail, catering and events programming including coordination of the café and storefront and administration of caterings and special events for Spice Kitchen Incubator’s program participants. This position supports Spice Kitchen to liaise income-generating market opportunities for participants and strengthen their capacity as food business owners. This position reports to the Spice Kitchen Incubator Program Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

Catering

  • Review incoming catering requests on the Google Form each business day. Contact each catering request contact within one business day of receipt of request.

  • Create production schedule for each event.

  • Coordinate with identified entrepreneur to check availability and plan and prepare catering contract. Coordinate with customer and entrepreneur to finalize contract and obtain signatures.

  • Coordinate with entrepreneur to prepare invoice and send to customer for payment. Follow-up with entrepreneur to ensure payment was received.

  • Save all production schedules, catering contracts and other information in appropriate Box folder.

  • Assist Program Specialist to reserve kitchen time for entrepreneurs.

  • Print all necessary materials for each catering.

  • Collect feedback from customers after each event, review feedback and discuss with entrepreneur.

 Special Events

  • Assist Spice staff to identify special events that may be appropriate for Spice entrepreneurs to participate in and assist in application process.

  • Coordinate with entrepreneurs participating in special events to plan menu and pricing.

  • Assist Program Specialist to reserve kitchen time for entrepreneurs.

  • Assist entrepreneurs to prepare for, set-up and sell at events as needed.

 Retail

  • Coordinate products for sale in Spice Kitchen’s café and storefront set to launch in fall 2019.

  • Oversee scheduling of entrepreneurs and meals in café and storefront.

Miscellaneous

  • Assist Spice staff to collect programmatic metrics, income and expenses related to all areas of programming.

  • Assist Spice staff with other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.

  • Demonstrated understanding of local food businesses, catering and logistics.

  • Strong organizational skills including: proven ability to prioritize, plan, and manage time.

  • Motivated, flexible, with ability to work independently. 

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with bi-lingual ability preferred.

  • Ability to communicate with limited-English speakers.

  • Demonstrated multi-cultural experience.

  • Valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.

Spice Kitchen Incubator is a project of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and was founded in partnership with Salt Lake County. It is a business incubator that brings together refugees and other disadvantaged community members interested in starting a full or part-time food business. Spice Kitchen Incubator ensures participants receive technical assistance and training, have affordable access to commercial kitchen space and learn the steps to establishing a successful food business.
