Title: Spice Kitchen Development and Fundraising Intern
LOCATION: US Programs, Salt Lake City, UT
START DATE: August/September 2020
DURATION: 3-4 months, 15-20 hours per week
SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:This intern will assist in implementing Spice Kitchen’s 2020-2021 Development Plan, including the addition of numerous community and donor engagement events and activities, fundraisers, communications, and logistics of launching the upcoming Café and Storefront.
COMMITMENT: 3-4 months starting in August/September 2020, 15-20 hours per week
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with planning, marketing, and implementation of Spice Kitchen Incubator donor, supporter, and volunteer events
Collect monthly data like participant income, market opportunities, and donor engagement and gifts
Pilot new tracking and reports platform Podio
Work with the Data ad Evaluation Coordinator to implement data collection on program satisfaction, knowledge gain, and needs assessments.
Work with Retail and Events Specialist to plan and implement cooking classes, new café, and storefront
Assist with the organization and planning of 2021 Food Entrepreneur Round Table
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The intern will gain professional experience in community outreach, donor engagement, public speaking, and some event planning.
The intern will gain a deeper understanding of systems relevant to reporting and understanding programmatic data collection and evaluation
The intern will learn skills and knowledge related to program planning and new service implementation
REQUIREMENTS:
Suggested for candidates currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree
An interest in the food industry, business incubation, refugee communities and Spice Kitchen Incubator is an important consideration for people interested in this position as is an understanding or willingness to learn about the issues confronting disadvantaged communities interested in entering the food industry
Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts; adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
An outgoing personality and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Willing to learn about cross-cultural communication and ethnic backgrounds of clients. Flexibility and a sense of humor helpful!
Experience working in self-directed, high initiative, and low supervision environments. Independent and able to take on a project assignment and ask for help when needed.
Availability to work on evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English; fluency in additional foreign language preferred.
Background check is required.

Spice Kitchen Incubator is a project of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and was founded in partnership with Salt Lake County. It is a business incubator that brings together refugees and other disadvantaged community members interested in starting a full or part-time food business. Spice Kitchen Incubator ensures participants receive technical assistance and training, have affordable access to commercial kitchen space and learn the steps to establishing a successful food business.
