Chef Najati of Namash Swahili Cuisine

Originally from Somalia, Chef Najati came to the United States in 2008. She learned to cook at age 12 from her mother, who also owned her own food business. Najati spent her childhood selling her mother’s cooking and eventually her own on the streets in Kenya.

Najati wanted to start her business, Namash Swahili Cuisine, to share with the Salt Lake community her experiences of being home. She prides herself on great customer service and serves authentic Somali and Kenyan family recipes. Najati recommends trying the chapati, chicken curry, and coconut beans!

You may order the Combo Meal which includes all options below OR order À la Carte picking only the items you want. Plus, you can order the combo meal and add individual items in addition to your combo meal. “Mix-and-match as you please.”

Spice To Go Dinner “Options”

Entrées:

  1. Swahili Vegetable Curry (16oz):

    Cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and peas baked in a Somali spice mix, served with spiced, fluffy couscous. (Vegan, dairy free, gluten free)

  2. Swahili Chicken Curry (16oz):

    Grilled chicken thighs pieces simmered with peas and carrots in a curry made with East African herbs, spices, and yogurt. Served over lightly seasoned, fluffy couscous. (Halal, contains dairy, contains gluten)

Appetizers:

  1. Beef Sambusa (2pc):

    Seasoned ground beef, peas, carrots, green onions, garlic, and yellow onion deep fried until golden brown. Comes with spicy pili pili sauce*. (Halal, contains wheat, dairy free)

  2. Vegetable Sambusa (2pc):

    Seasoned potatoes, peas, carrots, green onions, garlic, and yellow onion deep fried until golden brown. Comes with spicy pili pili sauce*. (Vegetarian, contains wheat, dairy free)

*Pili Pili Sauce: A puree of cucumber, cilantro, olive oil, and serrano or jalapeno chiles. Spice Level 8 (1-10).

Beverage:

  • Mango Lassi (16oz):

    A refreshing and flavor-packed smoothie made with a mixture of yogurt, whole milk, and mango. (Vegetarian, contains dairy, gluten free)

Dessert:

  • Basbousa (2pc):

    A crumbly semolina cake flavored with cardamom and generously drizzled with homemade syrup. (Vegetarian, contains dairy, contains gluten)

Order Pickup

Please Note: Orders close Wednesday August 3rd at 12pm! Orders can be picked up, hot and ready-to-eat from Spice Kitchen (751 W 800 S Salt Lake City, UT 84104) Thursday August 4th from 4:00-6:30pm.

When you arrive for pickup please text us (385-202-5207) with the first and last name on the order, if you would like disposable utensils, and a description of your vehicle when you arrive. We ask that you remain in your vehicles and a staff member or volunteer will run your orders out shortly.
